Pacentro is a well-known and charming village in the Majella National Park, Abruzzo. Approaching the town, Pacentro presents itself from a distance with the Castle of Cantelmo - Caldora and its square towers. The Castle is an ancient fortification on the slopes of Mount Morrone which was built to protect the village and the Peligna valley.

From the tiny, charming historic medieval village 110 miles east of Rome, called Pacentro! Pacentro is a gem that can be found in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy….the next largest town is Sulmona. Very near and dear to my heart, Pacentro is the village where my family came from! My entire life I saw photos of this lovely village.

What to See. Pacentro's Caldora Castle dates back to the 14th century and originally had four towers (three of which are still intact), although there was already a castle here as early as the 10th century. It was erected to defend the Peligna valley from the Arab and Norman raids.. The Palazzo la Rocca has a museum housing various artifacts from Pacentro including coats of arms and ancient.
